Cannot connect to TTN - Sodaq One V3

Hi Guys,

I just purchased a one to test Lora.
Sadly I can’t get it to work with TTN.

I tried using the simple LORA sketch here.
https://support.sodaq.com/Boards/One/Examples/lorawan/

It says transmission is successful, but no messages are ever seen.

Thanks for your reply!

Regards,
Thom

Hi @ThomKey,

Are you close enough to a gateway?
Do you own the gateway?
I see you use ABP did you disable the frame counter checks?

Best regards,
Jan

Hi Jan,

I think I am close enough to a gateway, I’m in Weesp.
The nearest gateways are approximately 1KM away (Muiden / Poort) according to this.

Unless there’s a specific way to know as well.
I do not own a gateway.

Frame counter is still at 0 as I never connected.
OTAA doesn’t work as well, nor does the tracker software.

Edit: I just checked and see what you meant, disabling this didn’t do anything for me I’m afraid.

Hi @ThomKey,

I looked into the Gateway.
Name: Matanga Muiden
Altitude (m): 8
Placement: outdoor
Brand: Raspberry Pi based
Model: IMST
Antenna model: Aurel GP

An altitude of 8 m doesn’t give you proper coverage.
You are on the other side of the A1, the big A1 sound wall could block all signals.

The LoRaWAN long range only applies on non urban environments.
In a city the distance is limited by a lot of factors. I have reached a maximum of 2-3KM when the gateway was placed 25m above ground level.

I recommend you to buy your own gateway.
TTN is selling some cheap indoor gateways https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/article/where-to-buy-ttig
We sell a easy-to-use and IP rated outdoor gateway https://shop.sodaq.com/lorix-one.html

Or test with KPN, they offer a 6 month free trial.

KPN Gateways info collected by me (so there might be more gateways)
There is a Gateway in Weesp.

Here you can see how an operator does the antenna placement and they still only say you have outdoor coverage.
